Dia Mirza makes bold statement at IIFA 2023, roots for sustainability and safer planet
Actress, producer and currently UNSG’s Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals, Dia Mirza, took a bold step last week. The actress was in Abu Dhabi to attend the IIFA Awards 2023.
And she used the platform to create awareness about climate change, protection of biodiversity and working towards sustainability for a safer and happier planet Earth.
Her speech was a real eye-opener on various accounts. In one hand, she talked about how about 3 billion people around the world are living under direct threat of displacement due to the severe impact of climate change.
On the other hand, she informed everyone present at the venue about how massive deforestation around the world measuring up to millions of hectares is wiping out greeneries and obliterating key biodiversity from the earth year after year.
At this rate, the RHTDM actress warned that almost 700 million people worldwide would be displaced by drought alone by the year 2030.
She emphasized that the planet Earth is in the greatest crisis of all time, and creating Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is the absolute need of the hour.
She further added that the onus lies with every citizen across the world, every political leader, every businessman and all major and minor stakeholders involved to make planet Earth liveable for our children and grandchildren.
The actress, who has voiced her concern for various other social causes before, advocated for immediate actions on SDGs this time. She said this is needed if we really care about leaving a healthy and liveable planet for our future generations at all.
It is to be noted that this year, United Nations in India joined hands with IIFA to create awareness about sustainability and inspire people to take real actions on the issue.
