- Humayun’s Tomb
Maqbera e Humayun or the Humayun’s Tomb is another popular historical tourist place in Delhi which was built by Humayun’s widow, Bega Begum in 1565 in memory of Humayun. It is the first garden-tomb of Mughal architecture in India known for its marvellous architectural work which showcases in the double dome and corridors of arched alcoves inspired by Persian and Central Asian architecture. The tomb is also declared a world heritage site by UNESCO and an inspiration for the construction of the most famous tourist place Taj Mahal. Spreading over 90 acres, it has 47 meters in height and 91 meters wide and has been built from red sandstone and white marble. The tomb is also called chaharbagh as it has a vast sprawling lush green garden with 300 unique tree species, called the Sunder Nursery houses along with numerous fountains, a pond, and a tomb named Sunder Mahal. - Rashtrapati Bhawan
Yes, Rashtrapati Bhawan is also one of the best tourist spots in Delhi though it’s the residence of the President of India. Spreading over an area of 200,000 sq. ft., this Bhawan is the creation of Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker and was inspired by the Edwardian Baroque. With 340 rooms, Mughal gardens or Presidential gardens, several huge halls including the Durbar Hall and the Ashoka Hall, stables, staff quarters, and massive open space, this great palace is the largest residence of any world’s head of state. Bhawan has used around 700 million bricks in construction and is known for its architectural marvel as it reflects both Indian and British architectural styles. The Bhawan is divided into 3 Circuits- Circuit 1 is the main building of Rashtrapati Bhawan, Circuit 2 is the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex, and the world-renowned Mughal gardens called circuit 3.
